The eco tourist will experience genuine, community based and sustainable ecotourism in Thailand, where eco tourists get a chance to go wild elephant trekking and discover Thai wildlife with local Isan people as guides.

You will stay with a local village family, an amazing thai Isan cultural experience, and you will go trekking in the Phu Wua mountain range, including wild elephant trekking and discover caves, waterfalls and forest temples.

Day 1: Udon Thani airport or Nongkhai railway station – Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary

  • Pick-up from Udon Thani airport or Nongkhai rail station by English-speaking local assistant. Home stay in Kham Pia village by the Phu Wua Mountains.Homestay at Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Transfer to the village of Kham Pia in Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary (about 3hrs).
  • Settle in and rest in your home stay.
  • Short trek to a scenic viewpoint of the wildlife reserve for a presentation of the Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary by a local guide.
  • Dinner at a restaurant in the small town of Bung Klaa by the Mekong River.
  • Transfer back to Kham Pia and spend the night in your home stay.

Day 2: Phu Wua Trekking

  • Breakfast at your home stay. Waterfall at Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Transfer to the forest to trek to the waterfalls of Cha Nan and Tham Foon. Picnic at Tham Foon Waterfall.
  • Butterfly and bird watching while trekking. Pick up some herbs and plants in the forest to use for your dinner and learn how to cook a Thai meal.
  • On the way, stop at Tham Hook cave to maybe meet the monks and see the elephant bones.
  • Dinner and camp in the forest for the night (or back to the village during rainy season).


Day 3: Wild Elephant Trekking in Phu Wua

  • Breakfast at your home stay or transfer to the village to rest. Elephant as seen from an Elephant platform in Phu Wua
  • Solar cooking (during dry season): presentation and demonstration.
  • Meet with the children in Kham Pia’s school (optional). Lunch in the village and tasting of solar-cooked food.
  • Trek to the elephant watch platform. Afternoon in the trees to watch the elephants, if you’re lucky, or to learn more about Thai wildlife.
  • Dinner and overnight in the elephant platform or transfer to the village and stay overnight.

 

Day 4: Mekong River – Kham Pia village eco tour

  • Breakfast at your home stay or transfer to the village to rest.Rubber tree cutting with vilagers
  • Transfer to the Mekong River for a boat tour (from October/November to April/May).
  • Lunch at a restaurant with view of the Mekong.
  • Transfer to Kham Pia village. Visit a rubber tree plantation and learn the process with the local guide.
  • Watch and learn to weave cloths and baskets from the local artisans.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in the village.


Day 5: Phu Tok – Phu Wua Trekking

  • Breakfast at your home stay. Phu Thok sandstone
  • Transfer to Phu Thok, a massive sandstone rock covered by a series of walkways and with a magnificent viewpoint from the top. Just before the top you can stop in a cave temple (It is not possible to go to the top during rainy season).
  • Lunch at a restaurant on the way.
  • Transfer to Tham Phra Waterfall. Go for a swim. Like locals, keep your clothes on to respect the Thai custom.
  • Transfer to Kham Pia.
  • Dinner and stay overnight in the village.

Day 6: Kham Pia village – Nongkhai rail station or Udon Thani airport

  • Breakfast at your home stay.
  • Be wished good luck in a traditional Isan/Laos Baci ceremony.
  • Transfer to Nongkhai rail station or Udon Thani airport.

This tour includes

  • Transportation: By air-conditioned van.
  • Accommodation: Home stay (mattress and fan, toilet and bathroom with bucket and cold water).
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
  • Guide: English-speaking guides.

This tour does not include
